The History of Troop 218
In 2000, Mr. Tim O’Connor, who was a Webelos 2 dad in Pack 3425, with the help of Mike Dowdall and Dale Weber in Pack 3218, started the groundwork for the founding of Troop 218 to be chartered through Church of the Ascension in Overland Park, KS.
After visiting multiple Troop 222 meetings, in October 2001, Troop 218 was founded with Tim O’Connor serving as the troop’s first Scoutmaster and Dale Weber as the troop’s first Committee Chairperson. The troop's initial charter of Scouts consisted of six from Pack 3218, six from Pack 3425 at Cottonwood Point Elementary, and three second years from other various troops. Of the original 15 Scouts, Ross Miller became the troop’s first Eagle Scout on December 16, 2004 and as of December 2024, 131 Scouts have achieved the Eagle Rank in Troop 218.
After Tim O'Conner stepped aside as Scoutmaster, John Perkins served as the second Scoutmaster; Mark Garcia the third, Jeff Smith the fourth, Kent Carlson the fifth; and Neil Skinner is the current Scoutmaster. Kevin Dellett is the Troop Committee Chair. As of 2024, the troop has 43 Scouts and 45 adults registered in the Soaring Eagle District of the Heart of America Council.
