January Campout - Trappers Rendezvous

Description

Trappers Rendezvous is a campout held at Harvey County Park - West. This location is just north of Wichita, KS. Trappers is an exciting campout as it involves scouting Troops from all over the area coming together for activities, camping, and old-fashioned trading. Historically, trapper's rendezvous was an annual meeting of mountain men, traders, and Native Americans, most famously in the Rocky Mountains from 1825 to 1840, where they would trade furs for supplies. Our version is no different, where scouts can bring small trinkets (usually hand made) to trade with others for an opportunity to come home with a unique treasure (or two). Scouts are encouraged to spend time thinking through easy to make items for trading and to prepare them in advance for the campout. The Herald (links below) outlines more specifics about criteria for items for trading; please review with your scout for scouting appropriate items.

This is a historically cold event, and as such the scouts should think back to their cold weather meeting that was held on November 3rd for key items to bring. We'll provide an updated cold weather camping list closer to the event and a general cold weather camping guide can be found on the Trapper's website.

The 2027 Trapper's Herald contains a summary of the event, a rough timeline, and some historical significant information. It also provides a guide for the items to bring for trading.
